# Set up your team

> Connect GitHub and your AI vendors, write the team's agent rules, and turn on the weekly summary

An admin does this once, in [synapse.synheart.ai](https://synapse.synheart.ai). It takes about 15 minutes. Developers then follow [Developer setup](/synapse/developer-setup).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect GitHub">
    Open **Setup → Connectors** and connect GitHub. This installs the Synapse GitHub App on your GitHub organization.

    Under **Knowledge sources** on the same page, choose what agents may recall: repositories, a Notion workspace, a Google shared drive, or public Slack channels. Nothing is indexed until you choose it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your AI vendors">
    Open **Team → AI spend**.

    * **GitHub Copilot.** If the GitHub App is installed, choose **Read seats from \<your org>**. GitHub may first ask an organization owner to accept the app's *GitHub Copilot Business: read* permission. Without the app, use a token from an owner or billing manager with `manage_billing:copilot` or `read:org`.
    * **Claude Code.** Paste an Anthropic **Admin API key** (Claude Console → Settings → Admin keys). Workspace keys don't work. The last 30 days appear within a minute.

    Then enter what you pay per Copilot seat, from your invoice or as a list-price estimate. See [AI spend](/synapse/ai-spend) for what each connection reads.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the team rules">
    Open **Team → Agents** and scroll to **Team rules**. Paste your rules and save. Each save is a new version, and developers' machines pick it up within 15 minutes.

    Start from the example in [Writing rules](/synapse/rules#a-team-example) and adjust it to your branches and repositories.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on the weekly summary">
    Connect Slack under **Connectors** if you haven't. Then open **Team → Goals & Alerts**, find **Weekly digest**, choose a channel and turn it on. **Send test** posts this week's summary straight away.

    The summary includes AI spend and what agents were stopped from doing, alongside team effectiveness when enough members contribute.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Invite your developers">
    Send them [Developer setup](/synapse/developer-setup). Each developer needs a Synapse login in your organization (**Organization settings → Members**).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Who can do what

| | Admin | Lead | Member |
| - | - | - | - |
| Connect GitHub, vendors and knowledge sources | Yes | | |
| Edit team rules | Yes | | |
| See AI spend and the team agent report | Yes | Yes | |
| See their own agent report (**Agents → Mine**) | Yes | Yes | Yes |

## Checking it works

* **AI spend** shows seats and, once a price is set, the monthly and yearly cost of unused seats. Claude Code shows active users and Anthropic's estimated cost.
* **Agents → Team** shows totals once enough developers have reported. Until then it says how many have reported so far.
* A connection whose stored credentials can no longer be read shows **Reconnect** on the Connectors page.
